Toot Toot Chugga Chugga!

This weekend Jentzen celebrated his 3rd birthday with a Big Red Car Cake. He LOVES the Wiggles and has been asking his mum about his cake for the better half of the last month. When I came to visit a few weeks ago, he asked me "How come its taking so long to make the cake?" Such a cutie!

This work of art is entirely edible (except for the figurines and wires in the rainbow) and also one the most complex cakes I have ever made. The car took the majority of the work, but once it was moulded and the first layer of fondant was applied, it actually started to come together and I was quite happy with the way it turned out. I hope it was worth the wait Jentzen :)

Happy birthday buddy and have a great week everyone!

Mario vs Sonic

Last Saturday, my baby Timothy turned 5! Timmy is my cousin from my mother's youngest brother (incredibly 11 siblings in total), and one of my most favourite people in the world! He is very cute and also very particular about absolutely everything.

So when he asked me to make him a Sonic cake three months ago, I knew he wouldn't forget or change his mind :)

We celebrated his birthday with a small party at Sunday School with all his friends. The big smile on his face when he saw the cake was well worth the hours it took to make it :)

His mum also ordered some Super Mario cupcakes for him to take to Kindergarten. I hear the kids loved it and am so happy they were a hit!

All the Colours

This creation was again inspired by something I saw on Martha Stewart. We had it for dessert at a BBQ I was invited to and I just loved everyone's look of surprise as I cut into the cake and revealed a rainbow of colours! The cake base is still our signature recipe with a little bit of edible dye and everyone loved the moist, melt in your mouth cake with the airy buttercream frosting (Thx mum for the recipe!).

I am Robot...

This robot cake was made for 6 year old Joshua who celebrated his birthday today with a Yum Cha lunch. This is my first 3D fondant cake and wow I have a new appreciation for all those cake designers who have been doing this for years. This cake took the better half of a day and with the baking, trimming and covering took up to 10 hours! Hope you guys like it :)

Ready, Set, Go!

These cupcakes were made for a colleague's grandson's birthday. He turned 2 yesterday and celebrated with a big party! He loves racing cars and I hope he loved these cupcakes!

Special thanks to Cake Journal for their awesome Race Car Topper tutorial!

Long Weekend Modelling

Last weekend we celebrated the Queen's birthday in Old Sydney Town. That meant a long weekend! Yay! So what better way to spend a rainy day then here at home practicing my 3D modelling. It took me all day but am really happy with the results :)

Baby Shower Cupcakes

It has been such a crazy busy couple of weeks that I haven't been able to upload all the gorgeous cupcakes I've been making in the last month. Even though I'm surviving on a few hours sleep, I feel so blessed by the love and support from everyone who's eaten a think sweet cake and all the positive reviews :) I will try to get on here more often and will post up my latest cakes, but if I don't get a chance you can always check them out on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/thinksweetthings

Okay, so this post is dedicated to cakes and cupcakes that are perfect for baby showers, birthdays and 1 month celebrations.

These cute cupcakes were inspired by Paris Cutler's Planet Cake cupcakes. They look too good to eat! :)

This cake was my first attempt at 3D modelling and was created for my beautiful niece's 1 month celebration. She is now a gorgeous 5 month old and oh how much she has grown!

And last but not least, a group photo to end the post :)

Come Fly With Me

Last Sunday we celebrated Carli's 24th Birthday with these cute cupcakes. Carli and Tim are our friends from CG and make the trip out from Parramatta to Kensington on public transport (I don't know how you do it guys) every meeting. So as a treat we all decided to surprise them at their home for a change. We had so much fun visiting, especially with the chocolate fondue fountain and we definitely got our sugar hit for the day!

I asked Tim a few days earlier what kind of cake Carli would like and one of the things he suggested was that she liked the idea of having a big kid's cake. Hope this qualifies :)

The inspiration behind these cupcakes actually came from Planet Cake's Cupcake book which had an aviation theme. I added the balloons, kite and hot air balloon :)

A group photo to end a yummy party!

Penguin Cupcakes

These gorgeous cupcakes were designed for my better half on his 30-something birthday. Am not too sure what inspired the winter theme (since his birthday was in summer), but I found these figurines in a clay modelling book and thought they were too cute for words. Special thanks to Catherine & Mark for letting me surprise Alex at their place and stay tuned for my first tutorial on Mr and Mrs Happy Feet!

Hello and welcome to Think Sweet

Think Sweet is a blog dedicated to some of the things I love most:  cake designing and photography.

Coming from a family of cooks and bakers, it is an honour to do justice to the recipes and techniques handed down to me from my grandmother, aunt and mother.

So, on the launch of my first blog I thought it was only fitting that it was dedicated to my Mum on her 50-something birthday. The ruffle cake I created for her was inspired by one that I saw on Martha Stewart. Don't laugh but she truly is one of my favourite go-to people for ideas. I just love the creativity and ideas that come from the simplest of things and the magic she can make with just a few tools.

The simplicity and elegance of this cake speaks for itself. So, Happy Birthday Mummy and Thank you for being my number one inspiration.
Love xx
